# Risk cohorts

> How Unifuse places each student in a weekly risk cohort from SIS and LMS signals, the reason codes it uses, and the default thresholds an institution can change.

Every night, after the SIS and LMS imports, Unifuse places each student in one of three
cohorts for the week. The cohort and its reasons drive the Advisor Brief, the Dashboard and
the Weekly Risk Cohort card on the student record.

## Cohorts

- **At risk**
- **Probation cusp**
- **Doing well**

## Reason codes

| Severity | Reasons |
|---|---|
| Critical | Term GPA under the probation line · On academic probation · Attendance fell week over week |
| Warning | Attendance below threshold · Missing LMS submissions · No recent LMS activity |
| Cusp | Term or cumulative GPA near the probation line · Academic standing warning |
| Positive | Strong GPA · Strong attendance · Submissions up to date · Recently active in the LMS |

A student with a critical reason, or two or more warnings, is placed at risk.

## Default thresholds

| Threshold | Default |
|---|---|
| Probation GPA | 2.0, with a margin of 0.3 for "near" |
| Attendance drop week over week | 30% |
| Attendance below | 75% |
| Missing submissions | 2 or more |
| No LMS activity for | 14 days |

Thresholds are set per institution during onboarding. Ask Unifuse support to change them.

## What the cohort is not

The **Risk Score** and **Risk Level** columns are separate fields imported from your CRM or
SIS. The cohort is the signal Unifuse derives itself from the SIS and LMS data it receives.
